Hey friends! Are you feeling overwhelmed and having anxious feelings this Thanksgiving? I understand the unique struggles that holiday celebrations can have after leaving a difficult relationship. In addition, there may be people you are celebrating with that leave you feeling uncomfortable or off a little bit. Sometimes these feelings are hard to explain. However, you know you don’t like the way you feel. In addition, many times we feeling like something is wrong with us (it’s not!). As a result, we continue to be around people who make us feel anxious. However, I want you to know you don’t have to feel this way. Here’s one of many ways to feel less anxious.

Acknowledge the feelings

First and foremost, it’s important to acknowledge your feelings. If someone hurts your feelings, makes you angry or even sad. Take a moment to recognize these feelings and understand that they are valid. Sometimes we try to push our feelings away, but one thing I know that’s certain is it only makes them stronger. Instead, allow yourself to feel these emotions and recognize where they are coming from. I want you to be ok with feeling your feelings. I want you to know, it’s ok to not always feel ok. It won’t last forever. Just like a laugh doesn’t last forever.

Validate Your Feelings

After acknowledging your feelings, it’s important to validate them. This means understanding that the way you feel is real and valid, regardless of what others may think. Their opinion is not important right now. It’s important to say to yourself “Of course I feel that way”. This is such an important step. Remember, your feelings are valid and deserve acknowledgement. This is so important when healing our feelings.

Be patient with yourself

Healing takes time, and it’s important to be patient with yourself during this process. You may not immediately feel better after acknowledging and validating your feelings, and that’s okay. Give yourself time to work through these emotions and understand that healing is a journey. Be kind to yourself and allow yourself the space to heal at your own pace.

Find support

It’s important to have a support system during difficult times, especially around the holidays. Join me in the private Facebook group that’s focused on single moms and healing after difficult relationships. Reach out to friends and family who you can trust with your feelings. If you don’t have anyone close by, seeking professional help or therapy is always a good option. It’s important to have someone to talk to who understand you and “get’s” you.

One Last Thing…

Remember, it’s okay to not be okay during the holidays. Acknowledge and validate your feelings, be patient with yourself, and find support. Take care of yourself this Thanksgiving and know that healing is possible. Happy Thanksgiving! I think it’s important to enjoy whatever tradition you like with friends and family who are kind to you!
