Emotional abuse is a type of trauma that can leave lasting effects on an one’s emotional well-being. It’s important to get some relief to your nervous system so you can relax. Emotional abuse can come in many forms such as manipulation, gaslighting, verbal attacks, stocking, and much more. The aftermath of emotional abuse can be overwhelming, that’s because if you’re like me, we are in survival mode. We are just trying to make it through each day. All this can lead to feeling anxious, depressed or on high alert.

Keeping It All Together

As professional single moms, we are trying to keep it all together for our kids. In addition we are always striving to do our best at work and look forward to potential promotions. Not to mention, we may be trying to balance a dating life. Ultimately, we are trying as hard as we can to keep everything together. We never want anyone like friends, co-workers, employers and maybe even some family members to know what’s going on in our lives. Just because if you’re like me, it’s embarrassing! I want you to know, I understand you. I support you and I get you.

What is Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is an ancient practice that involves the use of essential oils to promote physical and mental well-being. It is believed that by inhaling or absorbing the aromas of certain essential oils, people can reap health benefits ranging from relaxation and stress relief to improved moods, increased energy levels, improved concentration, and even enhanced immunity. The use of essential oils for therapeutic purposes, can be a powerful tool in healing from emotional abuse. Here’s how it can help:

Stress Reduction

One of my favorite benefits of aromatherapy is its ability to quickly bring you to a state of relaxation so you can reduce stress. Emotional abuse can leave you feeling constantly on edge and feeling nervous. My favorite essential oils that help me relax that have calming properties are StressAway and Peace & Calming. You can put a drop of either oil in your hand, gently rub it together and inhale. If you use a different brand than the one mentioned above, don’t inhale it. Another way is to add 2-3 drops of oil to a diffuser and enjoy the aroma in the room. Of course, my favorite way to relax is to mix unscented epsom salts with StressAway and then add it to my bath. It’s so relaxing and it just might make you smile😊

You can consume it too!

Ok, my absolute favorite is Citrus Fresh Vitality (safe to consume). This oil that you add to water also has calming properties and tastes refreshing in a glass of water. I have also added a drop to my plain yogurt and then added bananas & blueberries. It tastes amazing! By incorporating a few things that you enjoy into your life, you can create a sense of calmness and reduce feelings of stress.

One Last Thing…

While aromatherapy cannot erase the effects of emotional abuse or heal you completely, it can be a valuable tool in the healing process. I think it offers a little relaxation, and lift your mood. If you are struggling with the aftermath of emotional abuse, consider aromatherapy into your daily routine.
