As a matter of fact, placing a freeze is designed to prevent anyone from obtaining credit or getting a loan in your name. With this in mind, it is one way to protect your credit.
Will Placing a Security Freeze affect my credit score?
I want to emphasize, by placing a security freeze on your credit report, this will NOT affect your credit score. Learn how to get your FREE credit report.
What happens if I want to apply for a loan?
The first thing to remember, is to lift or remove the freeze from the 3 major credit reporting agencies before you start applying for a new credit card, loan or mortgage.
If you forget to lift the freeze, it may delay the approval of your loan, mortgage or credit card.

How to place a Freeze
There are 2 ways to place a freeze. The first option is to go online, to each website and add a security freeze. The second option is to contact each major credit reporting agency by phone.
Another key point is you may freeze a minor child’s credit report.
Information Needed to Place the Security Freeze
Be prepared to enter your personal information. For example your name, address, date of birth, & social security number.
Furthermore, for security reasons, you may be asked to answer questions regarding your credit history. For example, when you opened a mortgage, or the name of the institution your auto loan is held.
It’s important to use a secure wifi. A locked home wifi is the best.

- Myequifax.com – to temporarily or permanently lift a credit freeze.

- Transunion – their free credit protection is called TrueIdentity
- Transunion.com

- Your credit report will not automatically be locked. I had to log into TrueIdentity and click on “Lock My Report”.
- Experian
- Experian.com – Go to the tab “Credit Support” and scroll down to “Security Freeze”
- 1-888-397-3742
As a result, placing a security freeze on your credit report will protect you from unauthorized individuals from opening credit cards, loans and mortgages in your name.
