In the aftermath of a toxic relationship, the world can feel like total chaos. For single women who are heart-centered, highly sensitive and compassionate — navigating this new calmness may feel uncomfortable. At least, this is what I experienced. The transition from chaos to having a peaceful atmosphere certainly had its struggles. There I was sitting in a safe space with peace and quiet surrounding me and I felt anxious. Why and how could that be? As I sat there, I thought about how I got in this unhealthy relationship to begin with. It’s a path filled with nervous feelings, thinking about the past, fearful of the future and what consequences might come my way after making a decision and standing my ground. Worrying about what has happened when I made decisions and then predicting what might happen in the future didn’t help. As a matter of fact, it created nervous feelings inside me.

The Calm after the Storm

As you embark on this healing journey, just know that feeling uncomfortable with the peace in your life is ok. From what you have been through, I am thinking it’s normal. As always, contact a mental health professional or counselor to make sure what your experiencing is normal. Looking back I now realize my body was relaxing and calming down from the chaos.

What helps?

Try reading an inspiration self-help book, watching a movie, taking a relaxing bath or doing something that distracts you from wanting to engage or go back into the chaos. Plan a trip, learn something new or do something outside your comfort zone. I actually took a class on public speaking and it was a great distraction. I was so far outside my comfort zone that I had stomachaches. Sticking with this uncomfortable step led me back to peace and harmony in my life.

Healing Strategies

Some of the tools I have used in my healing journey are positive affirmations, the emotion settings on the WAVwatch, the Self-Healing process and now my newest to release emotions is the “Release Your Feelings Challenge”. There are many strategies to heal from toxic relationships, you just need to find the one that works best for you.
