How I am saving money on medical expenses!

In this article, I’m sharing how I save money on medical expenses. Here are some tips and tricks on how to reduce your healthcare costs while still getting the care you need.

This information is for educational purposes only.🧐  I promote products that I use and love to help others, and to avoid advertising on my website.💕 It’s important to make purchases based on your values, goals and financial situation.  😊As an AFC (Accredited Financial Counselor), I highly encourage you save money before you make a purchase💕 This makes good financial sense💰

If you don’t take time for your wellness, you’ll be forced to take care of your sickness, ultimately costing you more money💰😔

Health Savings Account

Using a HSA (Health Savings Account) allows you to save money on taxes for medical expenses. Money that you put into a HSA is tax-deductible and the funds can be used for eligible medical expenses, such as doctor visits and prescriptions. The best part about a HSA is that any money left over at the end of the year rolls over to the following year, so you’re always saving. HSA’s are designed specifically for high deductible plans

If you’re not sure where to start when it comes to improving your finances, this assessment can help you focus on the areas that need extra attention.😊

Preventative Care

I try my best to take advantage of free health screenings and preventative care. The two annual free checkups that I take full advantage of are my annual physical and mammogram. After participating in the January 2023 – 11 Day Jumpstart, I am looking forward to getting my blood pressure results along with my A1C levels. This not only helps me stay healthy, but also prevents any large medical expenses in the future.

Shop around for Prescriptions

Whenever I need a prescription filled, I make sure to shop around. Did you know prescription drugs can vary greatly from one pharmacy to another? I recently found this out from an employee that works at a local pharmacy. To get the best price, compare prices from large pharmacies to small local pharmacies. Much to my surprise, our local small business pharmacy charges less for most prescriptions. I also ask for the generic versions of prescriptions to save money. I am saving even more money on medicine by using essential oils. Essential oils has been around for a lifetime so I wouldn’t underestimate their power.

Consider an eVisit

If you are considering seeing a doctor, consider doing an eVisit. This offers online access to doctors at a lower cost than an office visit. You can also access your medical records and view test results from the comfort of your own home. I use the app, MyChart and really like it. It offers convenience and cost savings for an eVisit which is great when trying to save money on medical expenses. If you need a test, ask if you can do a lab only visit. Sometimes we have to get creative to save money on medical expenses.

Emergency Room Visits are Expensive

Whenever possible, I try to avoid the Emergency Room. For non-life threatening illnesses and injuries, urgent care centers can be a good alternative, however, they are still expensive. If I can wait until the next day to see the Dr., it’s a cost savings of almost 50%!

Review your insurance policy regularly

Always review your insurance policy every year to make sure you understand it all the benefits it offers. It’s important to know the details of your coverage, such as co-pays, deductibles and out of pocket maximums. Whenever I am going to have a procedure done, I make sure the medical facility AND the Dr. is in my network. If it’s not, the insurance company will not pay for any Out-Of-Network expenses incurred.

Stay healthy!

The healthier you are emotionally, physically and mentally, the less likely you are to need expensive medical care. Here is a YouTube video I created on additional ways of staying healthy to save on medical expenses. Essential oils, the WavWatch and the 11 Day Jumpstart are some awesome natural ways I am using to stay healthy.

One last thing…

These are just some of the ways I save money on medical expenses. With a little bit of research, planning and some due diligence, you too can save money on medical expenses.
