I have been noticing I get panic attacks a few days after stressful situations arise. If you have experienced emotional abuse and anxiety, stress has become something that we have learned to live with. I have dealt with panic attacks, heart palpitations and a racing heart. However, If you’re like me, I rarely pay attention to the adverse impact that stress has on our body. I just had to research this because every time I drink coconut water, I feel better. So what I found out is that one major effect of stress in our body is the depletion of potassium levels. Studies show that anxiety and stress increase adrenal hormones that disrupt the balance of minerals in our body. I am writing this post so that if you have increased anxiety during stressful situations, maybe your potassium levels dip lower than normal causing symptoms of anxious feelings like I have. So here is what I learned in very basic terms. I am not a Dr., I just did some research.
Stress affects your potassium levels: Potassium is an essential mineral that promotes muscle, heart and kidney functions. When we are stressed, our body releases cortisol hormones to combat the stressful situation.
Remedies to fight potassium depletion: One simple remedy I found is drinking coconut water. Coconut water is a natural source of potassium, sodium, magnesium and calcium that help in re-balancing the mineral levels of our body. Coconut water has a similar effect to current sports drinks in rehydration and balancing electrolytes except it has sugar in it. Instead of consuming sugary sports drinks (which will make you more anxious), coconut water is a healthier alternative.
WAVWatch: Another useful tool I use is the WAVwatch. I wear this device daily and it helps in stressful situations. It has settings to balance adrenals, anxiety, calming & it’s good for emotions too. The WAVwatch is a wearable device that uses sound vibration for to alleviate many common symptoms. You can learn more about it here.
Endoflex: This is an essential oil that I have been using that supports the adrenal glands. I have learned that chronic stress is hard on our adrenal glands and it needs additional support. I have been Endoflex for about 6 months now to help balance my adrenal glands.
One Last Thing…
Stress affects our bodies in significant ways, including potassium depletion and if you’re like me, it could possibly lead to anxious feelings. I enjoy consuming healthy alternatives like coconut water and using devices like WAVwatch or essential oils like Endoflex to combat the effects of stress. It is never too late to start paying attention to the long-term effects that stress has had on our bodies, especially if we have experienced emotional abuse.
