How Does Laughter Help Me?

As moms, we all want to do what’s best for ourselves and our children, especially after leaving difficult relationships. Being a single mom can come with its own set of challenges, however I learned that laughter – yes that’s right, laughter – is one of the most powerful tools you can use to relax your body and uplift your spirits for you and your kids. There’s a reason they say “laughter is the best medicine.” Let’s talk about why it’s important to laugh and how humor can help us when we are emotionally spent.

Laughter is The BEST Medicine

As mentioned above, laughter truly is the best medicine. Not only does it help us in difficult situations, but it also has numerous benefits for our physical and mental well-being. I’ll be the first to admit, it’s hard to laugh when you’re feeling down. But stick with me…

First, laughter can be a great stress reliever. If you’re a single mom, you know all to well you have to juggle multiple responsibilities and face various challenges. Especially if you have left a difficult relationship. Laughing releases endorphins in our body which helps to reduce stress and anxiety. It’s a natural solution to relieve those tense feelings that you may experience as a single mom. Oh, how I love natural remedies!

Laughter Benefits our Physical & Emotional Health

In addition, laughing can also help our emotional health. It helps us to connect with others and build strong relationships. This is so important for single moms who are often the sole caregiver of their children. Laughing with your children or friends brings happiness and positivity to our lives which can help us when challenging situations arise. In addition, laughter can also improve our physical health. When we laugh, our body relaxes and releases tension. As single moms, we often feel exhausted and worn out, but laughter can give us that much-needed energy boost. Chronic stress, anxious feelings, and fatigue are all part of mental health. Mental health is not separate from Physical health. Want to have great emotional, mental & physical health? Check out the 11 Day Jumpstart for more information.

Furthermore, laughing can also improve our overall mood and outlook on life. It allows us to see the brighter side of things and not take everything too seriously. As a single mom, it can be easy to get caught up in the daily struggles, but laughter reminds us to take a step back and enjoy the little moments.

Role Modeling Laughter

But it’s not just about laughing for our own benefit. As single moms, we also have the opportunity to teach our children about the power of humor and positivity. By setting an example of finding joy even in tough times, we can help our children develop a resilient and optimistic mindset.

How Can I Laugh More?

So, let’s make it a point to laugh more often and encourage our children to do the same. Whether it’s through silly jokes that you can find online, playing “Would You Rather” or watching comedies together (I like America’s Funniest Home Videos)! With social media at your fingertips, you can also watch funny animal videos or find funny memes. Have find finding things to laugh about. Did you know that if you start laughing, many times the people around you will just start laughing? It sounds funny but I did try this once to prove someone wrong but it did work! lol!

Additionally, incorporating humor into our daily lives relaxes our mind and body which then helps us to be creative and open-minded. When we laugh, our mind is relaxed and free from stress, allowing us to think outside the box and come up with new ideas and solutions. As single moms, being able to think creatively can be a valuable skill in navigating challenging situations.

One Last Thing…

Laughing may seem like a small and simple thing, but its impact on our lives as single moms can be tremendous. So, try to make it a priority to laugh more often and embrace humor every day. Now there’s a challenge! Not only will it benefit us personally, but it can also create a positive and joyful atmosphere for our family. Let’s use the power of laughter to not only survive, but thrive as single moms. So keep laughing and may your healing journey as a single mom be filled with lots of love, laughter, and strength!
