What is ART?

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is an evidence-based therapy designed to help people heal from traumatic events and one example is domestic abuse/emotional abuse. It is a an approach that relies on eye movement techniques taking you through a traumatic experience and you changing the outcome of how you would like to react. This therapy has helped me enjoy my life so much more. In addition, knowing your values and why they matter is so important. The goal of ART is to empower survivors to take control of their lives and create positive changes for themselves.

How Does it Work?

The basis of ART lies in its eye movement technique, which helps clients access memories associated with their trauma more quickly than traditional therapies. During this part of the session, the therapist will guide the individual through various eye movements while they hold thoughts or images related to their trauma in mind. This helps them access deeper levels of understanding about what happened and why it happened, allowing them to start moving past it.

What do I do?

During the ART session, you will be identifying and challenging unhelpful thinking patterns that often accompany traumatic experiences such as guilt, shame, frustration, embarrassment, and fear to name a few. By engaging in this type of work, you can begin to see yourself and your experiences more objectively and realistically — ultimately leading to greater emotional freedom and well-being.

One last thing…

As a survivor of domestic abuse/emotional abuse, I have found ART to be extremely valuable in my healing process. It has helped me realize and recall the experiences I endured and reframed them so that I can move forward and enjoy life in a more relaxed, confident way. I am so passionate about moving towards growth and transformation rather than staying stuck in the past. For those who have experienced trauma due to domestic abuse/emotional abuse, I highly recommend giving ART a try — you may just find it life changing!
