To help your child build emotional resilience, you need to learn how to deal with your emotions first. With this in mind, you will be able to guide them through the process of helping them deal with their emotions. As a result, helping them build emotional resilience.

Encourage positive self-talk:

Positive self-talk can help build your child’s self-esteem and confidence. Encourage your child to focus on their strengths, repeat positive affirmations, and use phrases that promote self-confidence and optimism. Positive self-talk can help your child handle difficult situations, soothe themselves, and manage their emotions effectively. If they don’t believe a specific affirmation, talk about the feeling that comes up.

Teach problem-solving skills:

Problem-solving skills are essential in helping your child manage setbacks and obstacles in life. Foster emotional expression:

When they are whining, angry or sad, encourage your child to express their feelings through communication. Acknowledge their feeling or how they by saying it seems like you are angry. Are you angry? are acting in the kind mommy voice you would have liked to hear as a child. By saying and acknowledging their behavior they are being heard. Ask them what you can do for them or what they need from you. When your child learns to express their emotions in a healthy way, they will feel comfortable sharing their feelings and talking about their problems. This fosters a healthy emotional bond between you and your child and helps them build emotional resilience.

Be a positive role model:

As a single mom, you are your child’s primary role model. It’s essential to model healthy emotional behaviors and coping strategies for your child’s emotional and mental health. Teaching them that nobody is perfect and that they are going to make mistakes in life. In addition, helping them express emotions, and look for ways to understand and love all their feelings, even if they don’t like them. Those feelings are there to tell them something.
